Project RUZE is an experiment – to see if, using the engineering and technical knowledge that I’ve built up by playing with cars over the last 5 years, I can build a Mazda RX7 FD3 with a Toyota 1UZ-FE 4.0 V8 engine. At this early stage I don’t even know if the engine will physically fit…

Why RUZE?
The name is derived from the components: RX7, 1UZFE

The Site
On this site I intend to fully document the process, from sourcing the engine and chassis, compatibility components, transmission and finally registration and insurance of the finished product. Once the car is together and working, with the concept proven, I intend to strip it to pieces and completely rebuild the car and engine from the ground up.

The Plan
The plan goes a little like this:

  1. Buy a car with a suitable engine in it DONE
  2. Break said car and sell off all unrequired parts to recoup cost of car DONE
  3. Buy an RX7 with no engine DONE
  4. Try and work out whether engine and gearbox will fit properly (Make-or-break point right here)
  5. Get a gearbox and gearbox fitting kit DONE
  6. Get a Tech2 Motorsport 2JZ swap kit DONE (not quite in order)
  7. Fit it all together and make it work (yeah this is one step LOL)
  8. Make the car road-legal for the UK, register the engine change, get it insured, and drive it
  9. Let 6 months or so pass to make sure the thing is reliable
  10. Strip car to pieces, totally rebuild engine (head work, forged internals, cams, valves). New suspension, wheels, seats, dash, standalone management. Turn it into a monster.
